Machete is a very light media editor and player. The tool supports importing practically every popular video and audio format. It has a very simple interface, which is quite similar to that of a standard player, except that it has some extra buttons and handles that allow selecting a segment of the original file. Fortunately, this can be done with high accuracy because the program allows moving keyframe by keyframe. After making a selection, you can then trim the fragment or delete it. Likewise, it lets you append another file at the current position.
The editor has some other useful features. For example, if the source video contains various audio tracks, you can select the desired one. Likewise, you can use it to separate audio and video streams. This way, you can remove the original audio and replace it with a new track. Having the possibility of editing file tags is also quite convenient as well.
Unfortunately, Machete is lagging behind other similar software in terms of available features. Just to mention but a few of its drawbacks, I can say that it does not support processing video in batches or capturing footage from the screen or a webcam. Likewise, it supports quite a limited number of editing operations. In this regard, the tool cannot be used to manage subtitles, crop the frame or apply any type of effects. Finally, there is also a severe restriction as to the output formats supported (MP4, M4V, and M4A only). more
